The 164th Mayor of Wolverhampton is Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre who has made “Moving forward together” the theme for his year in office.

Michael was born in 1946 in Blackburn, Lancashire. He trained to be a teacher at St. John’s College in York. 

He came to Wolverhampton in 1982 as Deputy Head at Moseley Park School and went on to become Head of Coppice School School in Wolverhampton.
He became the first Director of the Wolverhampton Education Action Zone. He was then asked to become Interim Head of Northicote School.
 
Michael then was headhunted to take over the Education and Skills department in Britain’s worst prison of 2002. Michael went on to work in other prisons. He set up Oakhill Secure Training Centre for 11 to 16-year old offenders.
 
He has been a governor of Danesmore, Woodthorne and Heath Park schools as well as City of Wolverhampton College. He has been a member of the National Education Union since 1968.
 
In 2011 he became a Councillor in Wolverhampton for Park ward. He has held the posts of Equalities Champion, Vice-Chair of Planning, Chair of Planning, and held Cabinet responsibility for Education and Skills.
 
He is a father of two, perpetually trying to find a musical instrument he can master, a Disc Jockey on local radio (101.8 WCRFM Tuesday midnight for an hour of the best jazz), a gardener and servant of his terrier cross – Emily. He is married to Lynn who is the Mayoress.
